This year, Champions Charity are hosting four CES residential workshops across the UK. Our first workshop took place last week in Dudley, where we had a fantastic turnout and received some lovely feedback.
Throughout the day, we heard from guest speakers who shared their experience and expertise surrounding CES.
Susie Edwards enlightened us on her role as a Social Prescriber and how she supports members of the community who may be feeling isolated. She explained how most boroughs across England have teams of Social Prescribers who can help signpost people to the relevant support they may need – from debt management and PIP advice to mental health support and local groups.
Sister Marie Watson shared her passion for early intervention for CES, highlighting the importance of asking the right questions and ensuring patients receive the correct support and aftercare within the community. Marie is passionate about raising awareness within the NHS of CES diagnosis and aftercare.
Rankeshwar Batta spoke about how a medical negligence claim works and what clients can expect throughout the process. He discussed the importance of listening to clients and understanding how CES may affect their ability to work and impact their mental health. A previous client of Anthony Collins Solicitors, Carlene Purcell, also shared her personal story and explained how the firm helped her secure the compensation she deserved following her experience of medical negligence.
Stuart Wheeler from Freedom Wheelchair Skills shared his personal story, including the ups and downs of life in a wheelchair. He demonstrated how learning basic wheelchair skills can help people maintain their independence and make day-to-day life much easier.
