Claire Thornber

Charity Founder

Cauda Equina Champions Charity was founded by Claire Thornber, a former cauda equina syndrome patient (2010) and a leading advocate for people living with the condition worldwide. Having experienced first-hand the isolation, uncertainty, and challenges that come with CES, Claire established the charity after her CES injury, to ensure that no one has to face the journey alone. Her passion is to provide support, guidance, and hope to everyone affected by CES, whether they have been newly diagnosed or have been living with the condition for many years.

Claire lives in the North West of England and spends her time running the charity and supporting other charities, sharing the knowledge she has gained through her work. Claire has two daughters and is a proud grandma to Penelope.

Orla Holden

Assistant Psychologist

Orla joined Champions Charity in April 2026 and is the newest member of the team. She has quickly developed a strong understanding of CES through meeting individuals affected by it. This has given her valuable insight and strengthened Orla’s passion for supporting the charity’s community.

As assistant psychologist, Orla supports clients and co-ordinates referrals to our therapy services. She is committed to providing compassionate, person-centered support, with her long-term goal being to complete a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
