Champions Charity continues to support people living with Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES) through education, community engagement, and specialist support services. During 2024, the charity expanded its community, delivered education to healthcare professionals, and strengthened support for people affected by CES across the UK.
Our Community
By the end of 2024, the Champions Charity community had grown to:

This growing network connects people affected by Cauda Equina Syndrome across the UK and internationally, helping to reduce isolation and provide access to trusted information and peer support.
Supporting People Living with CES
Throughout 2024, Champions Charity delivered in-person community workshops designed to provide practical information, connection, and peer support for people living with CES.
Workshops were delivered in:
· Sheffield
· Birmingham
· Bury
· Watford
Across the year these workshops supported 140 people affected by Cauda Equina Syndrome. These events provided opportunities for individuals to connect with others who share similar experiences, helping to reduce isolation and build a supportive community.
Improving Awareness in Healthcare
Educating healthcare professionals about Cauda Equina Syndrome and its long-term impact on patients remains a key focus for Champions Charity.
During 2024, the charity delivered CES Lived Experience Training to:
600 healthcare professionals and student doctors
In addition, Champions Charity delivered a CES Study Day at the National Spinal Cord Injury Centre (NSCIC) at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, contributing to professional education and increasing understanding of the lived experience of CES within specialist spinal services. These educational activities help healthcare professionals better understand the challenges faced by people living with CES and highlight the importance of early recognition, compassionate care, and long-term support.
Psychological Support
Living with Cauda Equina Syndrome can have a significant psychological impact.
During 2024, Champions Charity supported:
48 individuals through its specialist therapy service
The charity also delivered online creative writing workshops, providing members with a safe and supportive space to explore and express their experiences of living with CES.
Community and Peer Support
Champions Charity hosted monthly online support group meetings throughout the year, allowing members to connect with others who understand the challenges of living with Cauda Equina Syndrome. These meetings provide valuable opportunities for peer support, shared learning, and community connection.
Information and Guidance
Champions Charity continues to provide guidance and support to individuals seeking information about Cauda Equina Syndrome.
During 2024, the charity responded to:
Over 1000 enquiries
received through the information line, website, and online community, helping people access advice, resources, and appropriate support.
